About

Dial In Espresso exists because most espresso advice online skips the part that actually matters: technique. Buy a better machine, people say, or a better grinder, and your shots will magically improve. Sometimes that’s true. Just as often, it isn’t, and a lot of home baristas spend hundreds of dollars chasing equipment upgrades that a few weeks of deliberate practice would have solved for free.

That’s what this site is for. We focus on the technique side of espresso: dialing in a grind, reading a shot, diagnosing whether a problem is you or your equipment, and building the habits that make consistency possible. We write buying guides too, because equipment does matter once your technique catches up to it, but we try to be upfront about what a machine or grinder can and can’t fix.

Dial In Espresso is run by a small team of home baristas who got tired of conflicting advice and decided to test things ourselves, then write down what actually worked. We’re not a big publication and we don’t have a test lab full of every machine on the market. What we have is a lot of practice, a willingness to be specific instead of vague, and an interest in helping people get better shots without necessarily spending more money.
